How-TUEsday - DIY High-waisted Shorts

Hey everyone!

Todays how-to will be showing the process of making old jeans into shorts. Last summer and this summer high-waisted jeans/shorts have been really in. Sometimes for me it's hard to find the right pair of high-waisted shorts that fit both my waist and legs. Creating my own pairs of high-waisted shorts is super cheap and ensures the perfect fit. You can use any pair of jeans you'd like, weather they are high-waisted or not. Typically finding a good pair of high-waisted jeans can be found at a thrift shop.

Before:

I bought this pair of shorts at a local thrift store. I could tell they had already been cut and just my luck the perfect length. But before you start anything, make sure you cut your jeans first. Notice, leaving extra length in the back is better (well depending how short you like your shorts).

What you need:

You'll need any type of cooking tongs (with an edge), scissors, and tweezers.

For a distressed fringe look take your tongs and pull the end of the shorts.
This will take a few minutes depending how long you want the fringe.

Next, if you like the ripped look, cut slits with your scissors.
In-between the cuts, pull only the vertical thread with your tweezers.

After you're done pulling the thread with your tweezers this is what it should look like.

After all that work, this is what my shorts look like.
Note - you can add as much distress as you'd like.

Make sure to wash your shorts before you wear them so all the fringe and cuts look more organic.

OTHER SHORTS:

Last summer I bought a pair of jeans at a thrift store to make high-waisted shorts from so here are these ones that I did not add rips to (sort of similar with the buttons):
